Doug "DruglessxF" Taylor
Length of time with PZS?
Third year. Never too old, never too young. I guess that puts me in the middle.
How did you get involved? / What attracted you to this job?
I have an enduring respect for the Portland Zine Symposium. I have a lifelong love of zines and admiration of those that make them. This is my way to pay my respects and to put my money where my mouth is. I hope to be able to do even more throughout the coming years.
What do you do for PZS?
General grunt/proud shitworker
Favorite parts of the event?
Going insane with sleep deprivation. I like trying to play Jesus by feeding the five thousand their caffeine from a solitary slow ass percolator. Getting black marker smears all over my hands. Meeting the two or three other blatantly straight edge kids that show up amongst the thousands of people. Putting faces to names. I'm definitely in it to network, meet new folks, share victories, and move on into the future. I am a firm believer that we can build the kind of culture that we want to live in, and that takes trust, cooperation, and commitment. Live your heart, and don't back down. We're not in it to lose.
Age, and anything you'd like to say about your self?
28 years old. Still a bit goofy, but I must admit, I am feeling older faster. Officially no longer "posi". I've been in Portland three years out of what will likely be a very long term. Too late for me, save yourself. I am part of the few, the proud, the Vegan Queer Edge; now and always. I am pursuing education in the direction of a public interest law degree, with a focus on criminal defense and animal law.
You might know me from..
Riding too slow in the bike lane because my bag is full of fifty pounds of books. Workaholism at jobs and school. Scowling and swearing at a pile of disheveled papers while drinking too much coffee and getting all jittery at the Red and Black Café (and the amazing "Vegan mini-mall"). High fives and stage dives, dancing in the pit, my zine Falloutkid, Goldenspike Hardcore, or hanging out with ghosts around 4 am, under a full moon, at a trainyard near you.
Etc, etc, etc...
Independence Day is every day of July; Happy International Zine Month!
